Thanks to everyone who filled out the survey. (And congrats to the gift card winners!)

I got a ton of insights into what you need support with. And this new newsletter format is the result of that.

And the survey says...

Y'all struggle with staying consistent, finding time, being overwhelmed, and sometimes just getting started with your marketing content.

So that's exactly what this revamped newsletter is going to address.

Every week, you'll get:

ConvertKit is my favorite email service provider. I've used a shit ton of them, but none come close. It's easy to use and manage with all the automation capabilities you need to save time without sacrificing connections or conversions.

Just the tip:
Read your shit out loud.

Here's a simple tip to help you write better content that sounds more like you—read your shit out loud.

I know it sounds silly (and it often feels silly when you're doing it), but it really helps!

When I taught college freshmen writing and tutored college students in writing, this was one thing that was non-negotiable. They had to read the work out loud to me if they wanted me to help them fix it.

A couple of things happen when you read out loud as you edit:

  • You can hear and fix areas that sound funny. Even if you're "not a great writer" (which is wrong btw...), reading out loud helps you hear when things don't sound natural or if you're missing a word/have a typo.
  • It helps you fix punctuation even if you're not good at grammar. If you naturally take a pause somewhere, you likely need a comma. If you run out of breath while reading, you likely have run-on sentences and need to break 'em up.
  • You can hear how others will hear it. Sometimes when you're typing in a Google Doc, it's hard to know if others will hear and understand it how you want them to. When you read it out loud, you'll be able to hear how it sounds to your audience.

How to implement this: The next time you are editing your work or about to post something, read it out loud. Make adjustments based on what you hear.

No, seriously. This is one of those pieces of advice people are like... "yeah, okay," but then never do. It will change the way you write!

Tool of the Week: Caveday

Digital Body Doubling with Caveday

Have you heard of body doubling? It's when you work on stuff next to someone. They serve as a sort of accountability partner, even if you don't actually work with them or talk to them.

I'm actually doing it right now. As I type this, I am sitting next to my friend Sara at a coffee shop. I'm writing my newsletter and she's designing stuff in Canva.

We aren't helping each other with these projects. We're just sitting beside each other, drinking coffee, and doing our work. And you know what? It's actually helping me get shit done. (This newsletter is a testament to that!)

Caveday takes this concept and makes it digital. They host 1- and 3-hour guided group focus sessions on video calls 7 days a week. You decide what you're going to work on in the session, set a goal or intention, and then do the work with your camera on while others work "alongside" you.

Personally, I love the 3-hour sessions, which are broken up into multiple smaller sessions with breaks in between. This has really been a game-changer for my productivity. And it's the next best thing to body doubling in person!

With my referral code, you'll get your first month for $1. Test it out to see if you like it. (And let me know what you think!)
